Plunderphonics

* plunder = pillage

* La composition de plunderphonics est une forme spécifique et radicale de collage dans laquelle tous les matériaux proviennent de musiques existantes. C’est un genre, politiquement engagé, défendant la notion d’échantillons gratuits (free sample) et dénonçant l’hypocrisie des lois sur les droits d’auteurs en musique. A l’origine, ce terme provient d’un CD de John Oswald intitulé Plunderphonics.

* Plunderphonics is a term coined by John Oswald in 1985 in an essay entitled Plunderphonics, or Audio Piracy as a Compositional Prerogative. It has since been applied to any music made by taking one or more existing audio recordings and altering them in some way to make a new composition. There is no attempt to disguise the fact that the sounds making up the composition have been "borrowed" in this way, and sometimes the sounds may be taken from very familiar sources. Plunderphonics can be considered a form of sound collage.

* En 1990 , après avoir distribué gratuitement un CD, toutes les copies restantes de "plunderphonics" ont été détruites suite à une action en justice de la Canadian Recording Industry Association (Sacem canadienne), en particulier parce qu'un titre "Dab" était constitué de samples de "Bad" de Mickaël Jackson.
